Our Happy Family
Kichijo is a home for orphaned and abandoned children of all ages. The children are provided with food, clothing, education and a loving home.
Kichijo was founded in July 2004 and is operated by Mama Lucy Lema, who has been raising children in this way for over 20 years.
Boma Ng'ombe
Our home in Boma Ng'ombe is where Mama Lucy, her daughter Dee and the family stays. The family consists of around 100 children and usually around 6 supervising adults, who may be locals or international volunteers.
Our Funding
Donations are the only source of supporting the children, and the home, so please give generously.
Education
The younger children at Kichijo are educated in our classroom until they reach school going age. We strive to provide the school fees required for all of our older children to attend primary and secondary school. School fees are our greatest expense. Unfortunately, we have not always been able to pay these fees. Recently, some of our kids were sent home from school and won't be able to return until their fees are paid. Through the help of donations we hope to get them back in the classroom and keep them there until they finish their secondary education.
To find out how you can help the children at Kichijo go to school, check out our donations and our school fees pages.
- There are 26 children at the Kichijo primary school
- There are 48 children that go to external primary school
- 27 children that go to secondary school
- 4 students that go to vocational school
- This is as of April 2009
Donors and Help
Many members of the local Moshi Volunteer community come to help at the home. They have become part of the family, working closely with the children, directly helping with development of our childrens home with programs for the children and sometimes helping with financial issues. There are also local doctors who have committed to giving the children regular checkups.
